Alia is a classically-trained mezzo soprano of native Siberian (Yakut) heritage; she started her music education in Sakha Yakutia when she was 6 years old, where she succeeded equally in learning traditional siberian throat-singing as well as classical opera. Even as she was growing up, she always found herself in-between the cultures, folklores, mythologies, genres, and styles. Since then, Alia migrated to mid-siberia, where she was accepted to finish music school where she received a full standardized musical education in operatic singing (6 years).
Migrating to Canada in 2005, Alia indulged equally in studying music as well as mythologies. Since childhood she was fascinated with yakut horror tales, as an undegraduate student, Alia undertook an interdisciplinary degree in mythologies and music of ancient Greece (that composed values of ultimate colonist culture) as well as and first nations (the mythologies and values of the colonized peoples).
SUBTERRANEA for Alia is a merge of cultural heritages, mythologies, folklore and nightmares. Borrowing from the exploration of Chthonic entities of Ancient Greece, to Irish mythologies, to indigenous folklore, cultural narratives ultimately contain the deepest fears and values of our ancestry, and therefore, history.
Alia is a sound engineer, producer, synth player and keyboardist, and homus player.
